Italian Elegance, American Ingenuity, Valued at $3.277 million

The Italian-designed Marquis 70, built in the Wisconsin heartland, has all the elegance of a southern European express yacht with practical features associated with American yachts. Two outer decks, for instance, allow for al fresco dining, and the fully enclosed pilothouse, with its wet bar, leather lounge, and plush helm chair, buttons down in rough weather providing push-button climate control. The Nuvolari & Lenard-designed salon, with its light-colored woods and impeccable stonework, is also a portrait of simple elegance, similar to Italian imports such as Ferretti and Azimut. Poltrona Frau handmade leather furniture, a gourmet galley, and strong natural light define the main deck. The lower deck has three staterooms, with the possibility of a fourth at the stern. The full-beam master suite, with shower, tub, and double sinks, has three vertical windows, offering a window to the sea. With twin Caterpillar C/18 diesels, the Marquis 70 is priced at $3.277 million. (920.822.1575, www.marquisyachts.com)
The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa
In October 2007, Great Eagle Holdings, which owns Langham Hotels in Boston, London, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia, announced the purchase of the Ritz-Carlton in Pasadena for $170 million. The group reopened the property as the Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa in January 2008. According to The Los Angeles Times, although the Ritz-Carlton recently finished a multimillion-dollar renovation, Great Eagle plans a $25 million renovation on the restaurants, including the Dining Room (which got its first Michelin star in November 2007), the new wine bar and other lounges, the 11,000-square-foot spa, and landscaping. With the change, the Ritz-Carlton brand goes down to one hotel in the Los Angeles area in Marina Del Rey, until the 54-story Ritz-Carlton hotel and condo project opens at L.A. Live in 2010.
The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa is a Pasadena landmark, which evokes the splendor of days gone by. Today, this restored and elegant resort hotel features grand getaways to spoil, pamper and indulge guests in luxurious surroundings. Located in a prestigious residential area, it’s about two miles from the restaurants and shops in historic Old Town Pasadena and 10 miles from downtown. The hotel features over 50,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, extensive gardens, three lighted tennis courts, heated pool, whirlpool and the luxurious 11,000 sq. ft. Huntington Spa.
